If you thought 2018 couldn't get any wilder for anime, Dragon Ball just proved you wrong. Just moments ago, reports from Japan confirmed that a new film would be added to the franchise, and Akira Toriyama will be heavily involved.

According to reports from Yonkou Productions, the creator of Dragon Ball is throwing his weight behind the next Dragon Ball film. The untitled 2018 release has few details out at the moment, but Jump Festa did confirm Toriyama will be in charge of the film's script. The artist will also oversee all of the character designs for the film.

So, if you have been waiting for a Dragon Ball film to go canon, then you may get your wish soon enough.

In the past, Toriyama has provided occasional assistance to the Dragon Ball film franchise, but the creator has held back from providing complete character designs and scripts. The most involved Toriyama has been in the past was with Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods and Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of 'F'. The two films helped reboot the franchise after Dragon Ball GT quietly came to an end, and they helped launch its latest anime series Dragon Ball Super.
