Dragon Ball Super’s Animation Is Finally Looking Good

Dragon Ball fans can’t deny it; When the franchise went in Dragon Ball Super, the anime looked awful at first. The series was meant to revive Akira Toriyama’s iconic franchise following the dismal reception of Dragon Ball GT. However, the new anime floundered with fans thanks to its shoddy animation. The show’s last two arcs have since greatly improved their animation quality, and fans got a direct reminder of that this weekend.

Recently, Dragon Ball Super dropped its 95th episode, and fans were floored by the animation which accompanied the release. The episode picked up with Freeza and Goku as the pair were accosted by assassin from Universe 9, but its animation goldmine came towards the end. Fans watched as the episode wrapped with Goku and Freeza fighting one another, and the animation was in a different league compared to the pair’s previous Dragon Ball Super skirmish.

Dragon Ball Super has seen Goku take on Golden Freeza before, but the match is one fans want to forget. The showdown happened in the anime’s 25th episode, and fans threatened the boycott the series over its grade-school level artwork. Now, after 70 episodes have come and gone, Dragon Ball Super finally managed to give fans the rousing fight sequence which anime fans have come to expect.

For now, fans seem satisfied with the quality of animation Dragon Ball Super is producing. Nothing can be worse than Goku’s original fight with Beerus, but otakus remain cautiously optimistic about the anime’s future artwork. Dragon Ball Super is slated to enter the action-packed part of the ‘Universal Survival’ arc soon enough, and the saga will see plenty of fights. Major heroes like Android 17 will have their full-on comebacks with the saga, and fighters like Kale (Female Broly) will get to go berserk as well. If Dragon Ball Super slips into bad habits with animation again, fans will be quick to call out the series for its shoddy production – and Toei Animation doesn’t need those kind of memes right now.

Dragon Ball Super‘s “Universal Survival” saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
