This week’s episode kicks off with a bang, and Dragon Ball Super is not afraid to play up Gohan’s reaction to it. Episode 74 starts off where last week’s ended as Jaco accuses Gohan of being possessed by an alien criminal known as Watagash. You know, the same one that Jaco managed to lose track of over a bowl of ramen. Gohan, and his new friend Cocoa, barely managed to avoid the Jaco and his powerful energy blast while citizens below believe the stunt is part of Great Saiyaman’s upcoming movie.

However, when Gohan finally convinces Jaco that he is not Watagash in disguise, the half-Earthling is shocked to hear himself called the mediocre son of Goku. Brushing the comment aside, the hero listens as Jaco explains Watagash’s power as the seemingly harmless creature can latch onto the darkness in people’s hearts to turn them violent. When the alien fuses with the host, he is gifted with untold power and has caused the fall of countless civilizations thanks to its rage.
Gohan is forced to help Jaco out with the case since the latter does not want Goku to know about the creature. The Saiyan reluctantly agrees to help when Jaco accuses Gohan of flirting with Cocoa who he had been spotted with.
Fans soon learn that Cocoa is not all that she seems. It is revealed that the starlet only invited Gohan over because Barry Khan told her to in order to create a scandal. The actor wants Gohan to be caught at her house rehearsing a romantic scene, and the hope is that Videl leaves Gohan for his cheating ways. Apparently, the conceited actor feels like he can use use Cocoa since her status as an idol has started to fade.
When Cocoa tells Gohan about her insecure feelings, the latter responds with a real and honest answer that will please fans. The fan-favorite Saiyan admits he wants to make Videl and his daughter Pan happy but that he’s far from being able to do so. His words reach Cocoa and she prevents any pictures of them being taken, but she slips at the rehearsals end when she kisses Gohan awfully close on the cheek. The sputtered Saiyan flies away in a panic, and fans see that a mysterious photographer has snapped a picture of the scene.
So, of course, there’s no surprise that its Barry Khan behind the ambush.
When Gohan gets home, he goes looking for Videl with a rather guilty expression. She greets him easily and even offers him food, but Barry Khan stops the two. He shows pictures of the scene to Videl, and Barry attempts to schmooze his way into Videl’s heart. However, the lady has no time whatsoever for the stuck-up actor and call shim pitiful.
Of course, Videl stands up for Gohan and says he would not cheat on her. Barry then gets kicked out of the house after Gohan ‘lightly’ shoves him against a wall, and the actor goes on a rant about his own self-importance before Watagash makes itself known. And, as you expected, the alien bonds with Barry’s wicked heart.
The beefed-up actor then attacks Gohan while he and Videl look over Pan. The beast knocks Gohan out and kidnaps Pan while challenging the Saiyan to a public duel at the film studio. Gohan is quick to meet up for the battle in his Great Saiyaman outfit, and fans watch as Barry level’s up into a gorilla-esque villain.
While the two men duke it out, Videl rescues Pan who has been quite unperturbed by the whole ordeal. Barry continues to grow stronger and levels up into a giant monster. The director of Great Saiyaman begins filming the real-life battle, and the city watches with baited breath.
During the battle, Jaco attempts to take in Watagash, but Gohan stops him since the attack needed to do so would also kill Barry. Gohan refuses to let that happen as he does not want Pan to witness such a senseless death. Even as Gohan gets beaten to a pulp, Videl and Pan wait for the hero to regain his senses, and Gohan does that in spades. Determined to be an unbeatable hero for his daughter, Gohan goes Super Saiyan and becomes Super Great Saiyaman.
Naturally, what follows is one very intense energy blast, and Barry/Watagash don’t stand a chance against it.
“Don’t worry,” Gohan says. “I held back on my power.”
As the episode closes, the Great Saiyaman movie has ended, and Barry looks properly reprimanded for his actions. The movie appears to be a hit, but Cocoa warns the bothersome actor that she will tell the press he was the beast that ravaged the city should he dare out Gohan as a hero.
