It’s not everyday you meet your future self from an alternate timeline. But, then again, not everyone happens to be Trunks. The latest episode of Dragon Ball Super‘s dub finally introduced Vegeta’s son to – well – himself and it was as confusing as you’d imagine.
Toonami recently aired the anime’s 48th episode, and the installment saw Future Trunks make his way back to the main timeline. The fighter was on the run from Goku Black after he escaped the villain in Bulma’s time machine, but he collapsed as soon as he reached his destination.

Lucky for Future Trunks, Trunks just happened to be around when he went down.
The younger boy was doing lessons with Pilaf’s gang, and Trunks stumbled upon his counterpart’s time machine. The boy became even more confused when Bulma began panicking over the stranger’s injuries, and Trunks’ head almost exploded when his mom called the guy Trunks.
Standing in the back, Mai wondered aloud if the older man could be Trunks’ illegitimate brother given their similar looks. When Vegeta arrived, Trunks got even confused when his father showed concern for the injured stranger. It was only after Future Trunks woke up that the younger boy learned they are actually the same person. So, you can imagine what kind of crisis that sent Trunks spiraling into.
While this isn’t the first time Future Trunks visited this timeline, it is the first time he’s come when he could meet Trunks. The boy was not alive in Dragon Ball Z when Future Trunks came around the first time. The boy was born about two years after that arc ended, so Trunks never thought he would surprise himself one day.
DragonBall Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturday evenings at 7:15 p.m. CST. Adult Swim airs the English dub during its Toonami block Saturday evenings at 9:30 p.m, and is now available to stream on FunimationNOW and Amazon Video.
