If there are words out there capable of sending anime fans into a frenzy, they are ‘live-action adaptation.’ Over the years, the entertainment industry has fallen short when it comes to adapting anime for film, so many grew nervous when Fullmetal Alchemist announced its own live-action project. Tonight, the film finally debuted to fans at Anime NYC, and the reviews are in.

If those lucky attendees have anything to say, it is that Fullmetal Alchemist marks a bright future for upcoming anime adaptations following after it.
As you can see below, Twitter is buzzing with fan-reactions to the Fullmetal Alchemist film. Anime NYC was able to host the movie’s U.S. premiere to a sold-out audience, and fans says they think the adaptation is a hit.
The film, which is directed by Fumihiko Sori, gives a brand-new take on Hiromu Arakawa’s beloved series. The visionary told fans recently he approached Fullmetal Alchemist as an entity separate from its acclaimed anime, and Sori’s choice to adapt the manga was a wise one. Fans admit the live-action take does cut down side stories to focus on its main plot, but Fullmetal Alchemist does one very important thing right.
After all, the reviews do praise the adaptation for doing its characters justice.

There are plans currently to screen the live-action film in the US, but no dates or licensing partners have been announced just yet. #AnimeNYC The live action Fullmetal Alchemist movie is actually really good. As an adaptation, there is some deviants from the source material but at its core, the characters are exactly how they should be. I give my hats to Sori-san. He made a great adaptation! pic.twitter.com/dnanWG2veZ
