When it comes to anime, reboots are just another part of life. Long-running franchises are often reset if fans grow tired of the series or due to adaptation concerns. Just like how Fullmetal Alchemist was given a reboot anime, other series have undergone the same process, and Hunter x Hunter is one such franchise. Having debuted as a manga back in March 1998, Hunter x Hunter was given an anime adaptation back in 1999, but one studio could not let the story end there. Now, one of the new show’s stars is speaking about her involvement with Hunter x Hunter, and she could not sound happier about her job.
Over on her blog, Megumi Han published a post to celebrate her Hunter x Hunter character. The voice actress, who plays Gon Freecs, wanted to wish the young boy a happy birthday. And, to the delight of fans, Han’s message was published in Weekly Shonen Jump. A fan-translation of the sweet note can be read below thanks to Yayuu.

“Congratulations!! Congratulations!!” Han wrote, celebrating the birthday of both Gon and creator Togashi Yoshihiro.
“It’s already been 18 years ago since I met Hunter x Hunter as an elementary school student on my way home, meeting a friend and going over to his/her place,” she wrote. “The first time I saw that mountain of Shounen Jump, it was like a mountain of treasure. And the volume I picked out from the middle of the mountain was the one which Hunter x Hunter first serialized in.”
“On that day, till it got dark, I sat there mesmerized, reading Jump with my friend. At that time, the first anime was announced and my friend and I were very excited. The first time I heard the HxH radio broadcast. The first time I went to a public recording of HxH. To Jump Fest. To the Musical.”
As a childhood fan, Han was obviously overjoyed to learn she’d been cast in the Hunter x Hunter reboot when it was being developed. About 15 years after discovering the story, Han nabbed the role of Gon. “This work that changed my life many times throughout the years. It changed my life once again,” she said.
“In the end, even till today, the one work out of many that I rely on and moves me the most is Hunter x Hunter. It became part of my daily life, just like one needs food. It became what motivates me even if it’s only a little bit, even for a fleeting moment, I want to be a part of its life. It’s irreplaceable. It is for that reason that I believe I’m here.”
If you are not familiar with Hunter x Hunter, then you can definitely get acquainted. The shonen series is one filled with hijinks and thrilling action since it follows a young boy named Gon Freecs who dreams of becoming a Hunter. Determined to pass the challenging Hunter Examination, Gon and his comrades begin their journey to become revered Hunters and cause a ruckus along the way.
