Robert Kirkman has a lot on his plate, following the wildly successful run of The Walking Dead as both an Image Comic and as an AMC live-action television series. Not satisfied with simply undead success, Kirkman overtook the animation world with three seasons of Invincible on Amazon Prime Video. With the fourth season on its way, we had the chance to chat with Kirkman himself about both when we’ll receive an update on Invincible’s fourth season and some major new information about one of the series’ supporting characters, Battle Beast.

To start, Kirkman didn’t reveal much new information about Invincible season four, but stated that more would be revealed at this year’s New York Comic Con, “I would say, pay attention to this year’s New York Comic Con. Plenty will be said about Invincible’s fourth season there.” The upcoming panel will take place on Friday, October 10th at 5:30 PM Eastern time, bringing together stars Steven Yeun and Gillian Jacobs, along with Kirkman, to talk about the next season. Here’s how New York Comic Con describes the upcoming panel,
“Join Emmy-Award winner Steven Yeun, Gillian Jacobs, co-creator, co-showrunner, executive producer Robert Kirkman, and members of the star-studded voice cast for exclusive conversation filled with Season Four teases, behind-the-scenes insights, and surprises Invincible fans won’t want to miss. Has Invincible recovered from the fight with Conquest? Will things ever be the same with Eve? Will there be more Omni-Man in Season Four? Where is Season Five, William? All questions that may or may not be answered!”
Battle Beast Continues to Rage
Kirkman isn’t quite done with the Invincible universe as of yet, returning to Mark Grayson’s universe following the comic book finale to focus on the war-hungry feline known as Battle Beast. The ongoing comic book series hit the ground running and became one of the highest-selling comics for its release month. To start, we asked Kirkman if the plan was to ever hand off the reins of the series to Battle Beast’s “successor” in the original Invincible comic book.
“That is not the plan, Battle Beast is a regular monthly series, and when we catch up to when he returns to Invincible in the original run, the comic will end. It’s not a series that we plan on doing forever, but it is going to go for a good number of issues. It is the story of Thokk (aka Battle Beast) and so when you complete the whole Battle Beast run, you’ll be able to go back and read Invincible and have a better understanding of Battle Beast and what makes him tick. I think it will affect those issues of Invincible in some really cool and interesting ways.”
Of the many Image characters brought to life on the Amazon series, Battle Beast’s casting was one of the biggest surprises. Michael Dorn, who pop culture fans might know best for his portrayal of Worf in the Star Trek franchise, took on the role of Thokk. In the previous Invincible season, Battle Beast assisted Omni-Man and Allen the Alien in their fight against the Viltrumites, holding them captive. Shown in the third season finale, ready for his next battle, Invincible fans should prepare for Battle Beast to play a big role in upcoming seasons.
