The end for UA Academy is nigh with the eighth and final season of My Hero Academia kicking off this weekend. Running for over a decade, the superhero shonen series has only been raising the stakes with each subsequent season as the forces of good and evil are set to collide one last time. While anime fans are sure to see original art from creator Kohei Horikoshi, a major Marvel artist has shared their take on one of the anime’s most explosive heroes. Despite working on mostly North American comic books, the Marvel artist appears tailor-made to bring Bakugo to life.

Not only did a Marvel artist take on the most popular character of the My Hero Academia franchise, Marvel also officially shared the new drawing. Releasing the image via Marvel Comics’ official social media account, here’s what the comic book publisher had to say, “It’s finally here! To celebrate the launch of the final season of My Hero Academia, Marvel and My Hero Academia team up once again to bring you Bakugo like you’ve never seen him before. This new tribute art was created by Marvel artist Olivier Coipel and was inspired by Miles Morales.” You can see this wild crossover art below.

Marvel Meets My Hero

Last year, we here at ComicBook.com had the opportunity to talk with My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi, who was more than willing to share his love of Marvel. Specifically, the mangaka discussed how the film, Spider-Man 2, was a big inspiration for the shonen series. Specifically, Horikoshi stated,
“This may be slightly different from the purpose of your question, but there is a scene in Spider-Man 2 starring Tobey Maguire, in which Spider-Man stops a runaway train. There, ordinary passengers see Spider-Man’s true face. But then a child hands him the mask he found and says, “I won’t tell anyone,’ “I think that scene depicts the answer to the question, ‘What is a hero?’ A hero is a person who helps ordinary people, and ordinary people who help them in turn. I think this is the answer to the question, and there is nothing more to it than that.”
As for the Marvel artist who recently shared their take on Bakugo, Olivier Coipel has been a force to be reckoned with for the comic book publisher. His extensive resume includes Thor, New Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, House of M, and more. There has yet to be an official crossover that pits the heroes of Marvel and My Hero Academia against one another, and even with the manga having ended, it doesn’t mean that there’s isn’t a chance we’ll see these worlds meet. In the past, the Avengers have fought against the behemoths of Attack on Titan, proving that manga and North American comics aren’t afraid to share the spotlight.
