Cafes are highly popular in Japan, and recently anime-themed cafes have been opening up left and right in Tokyo. The live action adaptation of Tokyo Ghoul is coming out this July, and in celebration of the event, a popular cafe has collaborated with the franchise. That's right, you can now eat like your favorite ghoul with terrifying dishes at the upcoming Cafe in Japan. While the undead may seem seem like an unlikely theme for a cafe, this collaboration will be serving up food based off characters from the series.
If you are unfamiliar with Tokyo Ghoul, Viz Media describes the story below:
"Ghouls live among us, the same as normal people in every way - except their craving for human flesh. Shy Ken Kaneki is thrilled to go on a date with the beautiful Rize. But it turns out that she's only interested in his body - eating it, that is. When a morally questionable rescue transforms him into the first half-human half-Ghoul hybrid, Ken is drawn into the dark and violent world of Ghouls, which exists alongside our own."
Gusts can experience this one of a kind eating experience at The Guest Cafe and Diner, in Tokyo. From May 27 to June 28 the cafe will transform into the Tokyo Ghoul Cafe, featuring a unique lineup of food, drinks, and also featuring art and costumes from the series. Check out the crazy menu below:
Kaneki’s One-Eyed Curry
Starting off the beautiful (yet creepy) artistic food is Kaneki's One-Eyed Curry, which is styled after the protagonist's iconic solo ghoul eye.Visitors that are daring enough to partake in the dish above, will get the full Kaneki experience and will be able to try on a recreation of his mask and take a picture.prevnext
Hinami’s Hamburger Steak
If the curry wasn't creepy enough for you, don't worry because up next on the menu is Hinami's Hamburger Steak. The bloody splattered hamburger comes with fingers instead of french fries, and will certainly fill any ghouls appetite. If the plate looks familiar, it is because it resembles the plate Hinami has in the manga. Kaneki walks in on Hinami eating a meal resembling a lump of human meat, a pool of blood, and a side of fingers. But if this isn't the one for you, don't worry there are more options to fit your fancy.prevnext
Tsukiyama’s Eyeball cheese mousse
How about something sweet after your meal, well don't worry because there is Tsukiyama's Eyeball cheese mousse. The creepy Gourmet ghoul, Shuu Tsukiyama is originally introduced having eaten a woman's eyes, and left her to wander in the streets without eyes. Now you can dine like the cannibal ghoul with your very own eyeball dessert.prevnext
Can You Really Eat It…? Burger
Also on the menu are items with references that only die-hard Tokyo Ghoul would remember. Such as the Can You Really Eat it...? Burger. While they might not be as shocking as other items on the list, the deep cut menu items are sure to impress. The burger comes wrapped in paper just like the mysterious meat bag given to Kaneki by ghoul mentor Yoshimura in the series.prevnext
Amon’s Kakeage Udon
The references don't stop with the burger, as up next on the menu is Amon's Kakeage Udon. Which is just like the udon Amon got with fellow investigators after work. The noodles also come with sausage that looks just like the investigator's quinque.prevnext
Last but not least on the list of food is the infamous bad-tasting sandwich, which is a reference to the egg salad sandwich in the series. The reason it is called bad-tasting is because Kaneki tries to eat a similar sandwich after he turns into a ghoul and is unable to eat it. Human food tastes terrible to ghouls within the story, but be assured that this sandwich will taste good in real life.prevnext
Of course to go with your food, you need something to wash it down. Don't worry because there are some special drink options just for ghouls. The Rc Cell Drink, which resembles the blood-like substance that ghouls need to live. There is also the Gelatin drink which feature Touka sitting atop a bloody red substance.
Anyone who orders items from the special menu will receive a special edition placemat with character art, and there will also be a shop with special edition merchandise related to the series.prev
