Anime fans are already well-aware of how terrifying Attack on Titan can be. The series may have its roots in manga, but the franchise rocketed to international success when Wit Studios adapted it into an anime. Earlier this month, Attack on Titan finally debuted its long-awaited second season, and fans were quickly introduced to a slew of new and terrible Titans. Hallmark monsters such as the Colossal Titan and Eren’s Titan are still part of the franchise, and they still stand as the anime’s most popular.

In the past, Hajime Isayama has spoken at length about how professional fighting helped influence the way he portrayed certain Titans. The artist has even said that three tenants of MMA fighting are what help him drawing manga in general. In an interview with Gong Kakutogi, the creator said he correlates three must-have tenants of MMA with manga. The fighting style champions versatility, and Isayama said manga is much the same way. Artists must wield creativity, composition, and more with deadly precision. So, when it came time to create some Titans, Isayama had a few models in mind.
When it comes to Eren’s Titan, the figure is similar to its counterparts in that it has a sinewy, ripped body. Isayama chose to model most athletic Titans after martial artists, and Eren’s form was specifically based on Yushin Okami, a UFC fighter.
As for the Armored Titan, the bulky character has its roots in a very famous WWE star. The creator has said he based the bombastic figure off Brock Lesnar, and you can definitely see the pair’s resemblance. Just look at the two’s shoulders and necks; You’ll see.
