Aymar Azaïzia, Head of Assassin’s Creed Content at Ubisoft, has confirmed that the Assassin’s Creed film takes place in the same universe as the Assassin’s Creed videogames and other tie-in products, such as comics and books.

Azaïzia answered a question concerning the movie’s place in Assassin’s Creed canon during a Q&A session on Twitter, saying “We share the same universe. Elements in the film have consequences as in our games, comics, and books.”

The question was first raised in the article revealing the first image of Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch stated the film took place in “the same world” as the games. Azaïzia stressed that the movie will tell a new story, with a new protagonist, but that it is still a “real” Assassin’s Creed story.
