Batman V. Superman Began As A Man Of Steel Easter Egg Idea

It’s funny how small ideas can lead to big–like, Batman V. Superman big–projects.

As massive as Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice is now, it’s initial origin is actually smaller than, well, Smallville. As director Zack Snyder revealed in a recent interview, the mighty mash-up between DC Comics’ largest superheroes began as a passing idea during a meeting. While discussing Batman V. Superman’s predecessor, Man of Steel, with filmmakers Christopher Nolan and David Goyer, Snyder pitched a small Easter Egg.

“I said, ‘What about at the end of the movie we do a scene where there’s a crate full of kryptonite delivered to Wayne Manor,’ Snyder told Entertainment Weekly. “Everyone was like…’Okaay.’ Once you say it out loud it’s a problem because you can’t unsay it.”

Even though it wasn’t used, that Easter egg still hatched the behemoth we now know as Batman V. Superman. It’s a good thing Snyder spoke up when he did.
