The YouTube series, TL;DW (Too Long; Didn’t Watch) has a new entry this time summarizing the entire Alien franchise. Starting with the original Ridley Scott Alien and finishing with Prometheus, somehow they’re able to break down 10 hours of cinema into under 3 minutes of viewing.
Using basic animation and humor, the voice and writing team Max Knoblauch and Bob Al-Greene cut the long running series of films down to the bare bones. Or with the Alien films – the bare exoskeleton.
The short video starts with the perfect summation of the franchise: “Seven films with an eighth on the way about what would happen if a couple bad aliens got on a ship… over and over again.” From there it goes one by one with varying degrees of description through each of the Alien films. For Alien VS Predator it’s one line (in a deep voice): “Alien VS. Predator, ‘Alien fights Predator!‘

For those who didn’t grow with the series and jumped in around the days of Alien VS Predator, the video also somehow packs in a quick breakdown of the titular character, the xenomorph. “A tall beetle from another planet with really really long lips…here’s the kicker it has acid blood, so even if you manage to hurt it, which you won’t it can kill you just by bleeding.”
The video series appears on Mashable’s YouTube channel and has previously summarized the Fast and the Furious franchise, Lord of the Rings and House of Cards to name a few. Illustrations are by Bob Al-Greene,
editing and Animation are by the team, Therese McPherson, Alisa Stern and Loris Ravera. With the addition of the Alien franchise TLDR, the series is now on their thirty second video.
