During the Hellboy panel at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) yesterday, actor Ron Perlman took the stage to talk to fans and, as it turns out, give filmmaker Guillemo del Toro some “Jewish guilt” about not having yet made a third film in the popular franchise based on Mike Mignola’s Dark Horse comics.”I’ve been giving Guillermo body shots for two years. We both walked away from Hellboy 2 agreeing that there would never be another one,” del Toro told the audience according to IGN. “But, with the passage of time, it became clear to me that he really always designed it as a trilogy. He has a very well-articulated idea of what the resolve would look like and it’s amazingly theatrical and is epic in scope and would make for amazing cinema, with or without the first two movies.”The actor continued, “but there are so many questions posed in the first two films that absolutely need to be answered. I said, ‘You owe it to the world to finish this trilogy.’ I’ve been giving him Jewish guilt.”Perlman chalked up the lack of movement to del Toro’s frantic schedule–the filmmaker is famously spinning as many plates as almost anyone in Hollywood at any given time, but unlike a J.J. Abrams or Steven Spielberg doesn’t seem to delegate a lot.”He’s just so busy, but I’m going to keep working away at the body,” Perlman joked. “I’m pushing seventy so he better f—ing do this soon.”It seems to be more about financing than time, though, if del Toro is to be believed. At last year’s New York Comic Con, ComicBook.com asked Mike Mignola about the progress on the film, and he told us, “Well, somebody told me today that Guillermo yesterday said, ‘When Mike Mignola raises $150 million, then we’ll make it.’ So if that’s up to me, I wouldn’t hold my breath.”
