In addition to directing Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon has served as a “consigliere” at Marvel Studios since he re-signed with the studio after the release of The Avengers. Speaking to IGN, Whedon revealed that, during that time, he tried to convince Marvel to make a new Daredevil movie instead of a television series.

“I fought for Daredevil to be a film instead of a TV show,” Whedon says. “Then under the auspices of Drew Goddard and Steve DeKnight… I’m dying to see the show but they released it just as I started the press tour!”
Whedon goes on say that, in retrospect, television might be the right fit for Daredevil.
“If the show’s working, the show’s working. Comic books are serialized entertainment and a lot of them lend themselves to TV shows as much or more than they do to movies.”
Whedon also shared why he’s so fond of the character, comparing him to Batman and crediting a particularly influential shared creator for making that comparison so appropriate.
“I like him because he’s basically Marvel’s Batman, thanks to Frank Miller basically. So for me I didn’t think they’d be able to sustain that sort of mood on TV but TV has changed so much. It’s come up so much that I think it might just be the right place.”
Daredevil does seem to be doing just fine on Netflix, where it’s already been renewed for a second season.
