Devil’s Due Productions has successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign aimed at launching a new, ongoing series based on Mercy Sparx, Josh Blaylock and Matt Merhoff’s long-delayed Arcana Studios series featuring a devil girl hired by the big shots in Heaven to secretly take down rogue angels. The series launched to acclaim and strong sales but thing quickly fell apart after the first (five-issue) miniseries, with only a single issue of Mercy Sparx: Under New Management being published. A team-up with Hack/Slash proved that the property was still on the creators’ radar, but it’s been nearly three years since that, and many fans had lost all hope of seeing the character return.Enter Kickstarter, who helped fund the project to the tune of $17,000. What do you get for $17,000? The publisher explains:”Creator/Writer Josh Blaylock and artist Matt Merhoff are back, and they have already produced scripts and dozens of pages of new Mercy content that’s just waiting to see the printed page. They just need to get all them colored, lettered, and tied up in a pretty bow before sending off the presses!”According to comments made on the Kickstarter campaign, Mercy Sparx #1 and #2 will have a couple of months’ gap between them, in order to help build word of mouth with comics retailers, but that once the series resumes at #2, the goal is to hit a monthly schedule.
