Original Red Ranger Thinks His Costume Is More Comfortable

The suits in Lionsgate‘s upcoming Power Rangers reboot are very different than the ones you remember from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and both styles will no doubt have their ardent supporters.

When it comes to comparing the costumes, ComicBook.com’s Jim Viscardi caught up with Red Ranger Austin St. John and asked which Ranger style he preferred. “Ya know, I think my suit was probably more comfortable. I think the helmets were probably comparable. I’m willing to bet his was custom made just for him, because there was a budget on that movie, whereas our television show was notoriously low budget. Um, so I can remember whipping my head around to throw a kick and the helmet would just keep going, and uh I’m staring at the side of my helmet. Even when it wouldn’t it would fog up so bad that here I am throwing kicks and punches and I can’t see through my lens, and we got pretty good at, with the stunt guys feeling out our distances in case that happened.”

“So I think I would prefer mine because it’s special to me obviously but the real question is what do the fans prefer?” asked St. John. “I hear a lot of talk about “oh it feels like it’s an Iron Man suit.” Well, Iron Man’s kind of cool, just sayin. So, is that bad, is that good, I don’t know. What’s going to really matter is what the guy inside it thinks, and I’m expecting good things from him.”

Power Rangers currently holds a 3.58 out of 5 on ComicBook.com’s anticipation rankings.
