The upcoming second issue of writer Louise Simonson’s Super Secret Crisis War, which sees numerous Cartoon Network heroes and villains come together in an approximation of comics’ line-wide crossovers, features a cover that’s a nod to House of Secrets #92 — an iconic, familiar cover for which Simonson herself was the model.From writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson, DC Comics’s House of Secrets #92 featured the first appearanceof Swamp Thing, but it’s also widely known that a young Simonson, net yet a comics professional, was Wrightson’s model for the cover (seen above). Simonson went on to become one of the most accomplished female creators in comics history, with a nearly decade-long run on Superman: Man of Steel and notable works like X-Factor and Power Pack.Comics Alliance reports that with the Super Secret Crisis War! cover above, IDW Publishing is releasing an alternate cover for by artist Andy Suriano that pays homage to the famous cover and its famous subject (under his signature, Suriano notes “after Wrightson, for Weezie.”Check out the solicitation text for the issue:
