“Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie,” Diesel told Variety. “It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don’t want to be relevant ever.” People are certainly getting fed up with the Academy for ignoring mainstream films, but Furious 7 will have an uphill battle to get any nominations let alone Best Picture.
After taking a pause Diesel reiterated his bold prediction with more vigro to make sure everyone knew he wasn’t joking. “This will win best picture,” Diesel said. “There is nothing that will ever come close to the power of this thing.”
Let’s try to take Diesel seriously for a moment. Furious 7 will make lots and lots of money, and that is usually an indicator that your film won’t be the Best Picture winner. The three highest-grossing films that actually won Best Picture were Titanic, The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King and Forrest Gump.
Continuing the global exploits in the unstoppable franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of Fast & Furious 7. James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series that also welcomes back favorites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black. They are joined by international action stars new to the franchise including Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey and Kurt Russell. The film was written by Chris Morgan.
Furious 7 races into theaters April 3, 2015.
