IDW Publishing will bring Rick Veitch's fan-favorite series The One back into print for the first time in years, ComicBook.com has learned exclusively.

The series will be published first as single-issue comics and later in a collected edition.

"The One grew out of two things: my fear of a possible nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union, and my deep conviction that the genre of superheroes had a lot of room to develop and mature," Veitch told ComicBook.com in a statement. "Big publishers were reluctant, in those days, to experiment with their caped cash cows, so they started specialty imprints, like Epic Comics, to allow creators to go hog wild."

The self-proclaimed "last word on superheroes" has been completely remastered with new scans and updated color, all overseen by Veitch himself. The One presents a worldview that predicted today's political climate as closely as more recognized masterworks like Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns.

"Revisiting the series, done in 1984 while the Cold War was still raging, I'm ruefully surprised how relevant the story is to our current volatile situation," Veitch said. "The tone and characters of The One are right in tune with today's political theater."

The One #1 will be available in stores and digitally on February 21, 2018.
