This holiday season, the Spawn Universe is going to expand in a way that no reader could have ever predicted with the release of the two-issue series I Saw Santa. Written by ComicBook’s own Chris Killian with his brother Andrew Sanders and illustrated by Sam and Twitch: Case Files artist Thomas Nachlik, this “supernatural slay ride” is perfect for fans of Spawn who have been with the franchise for decades, as well as horror fans just after a scary time.

โThis will be a crazy, seasonal story that will shed a light on Spawn and Santa like Iโve never presented,โ Spawn creator Todd McFarlane said. โThis isnโt a fun-filled adventureโฆ quite the opposite, as we will explore one of the mythologies that weโve all been taught about the ‘rules’ of getting our presents. Chris and Andrew wanted to pitch this to me, and I was dubious, until I heard it. And it put a smile on my face for the wicked path they wanted to travel down. Thomasโ art also set the mood for this bizarre storyline. So, buckle up.โ
โThis is a love letter (Christmas gift?) to Spawn fans,โ Killian added. โA holiday horror tale thatโs part murder mystery, part demented folkloreโand completely in-universe. What if Santa Claus really existed in the dark world of Spawn?โ
I Saw Santa will also feature a slew of variant covers as well, with issue #1 featuring the return of fan-favorite artist Greg Capullo to the Spawn Universe. Capullo’s variant for I Saw Santa marks his first time back in the world of McFarlane’s character since his run on Spawn #313 – 316 back in 2020 and 2021
Issue #1 of I Saw Santa will be released on Wednesday, November 26 (the final order cutoff is Monday, November 3), with the final issue to follow in December, just in time for Christmas; each issue clocks in at 48 pages. You can check out the full list of covers below.

In this chilling new story, Detectives Sam and Twitch uncover a bizarre homicide on Christmas Eveโฆ but the shocking truth behind it all may force the hand of someone far more powerful to get involved.
I SAW SANTA blends twisted holiday nostalgia with bone-chilling terror, reimagining Santa as a mythic figure burdened by the children he couldnโt saveโฆ and haunted by the one whoโs grown up to become his worst nightmare. From the snowy streets of New York to the glittering halls of the North Pole, this twisted yuletide tale dares to ask: Does Santa bear any responsibility when BAD things happen to GOOD children?
