Fiona Staples and Brian K. Vaughan have been producing the most consistently entertaining fantasy epic in Image Comics vast publishing line. Saga is the perfect blend of high concept science fiction and anything-goes swords and sorcery, a combination that would give Star Wars a run for its money were it not confined to the page.

After taking a routine break with the last issue of Volume 7 of their Eisner-winning series, Alana, Marko, Hazel, and the rest of the crazy universe are back with issue #43. Late numbers in long-running series are always a little intimidating for new readers, so Vaughan and Staples are sweetening the incentive as a part of the Image Comics 25th Anniversary celebration.
Readers will be able to pick up Saga #43 May 31 at their local comic stores for just .25 cents! Retailers will also have limited copies of an exclusive print to commemorate the occasion, so make sure you get a hold of your friendly LCS dealer to make sure you’re on the list.
“I am so proud of this issue, and excited for our craziest storyline yet!” said Vaughan. “Fiona and I wanted to thank our incredible readers for five years of loyalty with this special $0.25 issue, but we also hoped to encourage anyone who hasn’t yet read SAGA to finally dip their toes in our water (eww). So if you have ‘mature’ friends or loved ones you think might be weird enough to enjoy our series, why not pick up a few extra copies to share with them?”
Just like the Walking Dead before, the quarter issue is meant to serve as an initiative to get new readers on board, but Vaughan is aware that some retailers might be missing out on sales of another ‘sure thing’ issue of a best seller like Saga.
“Either way, we know our beloved retailing partners won’t profit as much as they would from our regular $2.99 cover price, so if we save you a few bucks in May, we hope you’ll please consider shifting a little of that money back to your local store by trying PAPER GIRLS or THE OLD GUARD or STRAY BULLETS or any of the other spectacular collection of creator-owned comics that our friends at Image have been publishing for an unbelievable 25 years.”
Saga #43’s Final Order Cutoff date is May 1st, less than two weeks. Make sure your pre-order your copy at your friendly neighborhood comic shop before then!
