Whether a book makes you laugh loud, scream in anger, or elicits a tearful frown, the best stories grab one particular emotion or another. Every week new comics have the ability to deliver some memorable and quotable events, and this week is no different.

Part of the reason comics have become so popular is their ability to create and develop characters over a long span of time. Whether they’re part of a big ongoing event or a cutoff standalone story, there’s always room for some delightful banter and character development. New books hit every week, each one adding its own flavor to these established characters, and many times these books manage to include some fantastic dialogue that you’ll remember long after.
This week is heavy on the humor front, with many of the highlights contain overwhelming amounts of sarcasm and snark. In fact, two of them come from the X-Men’s Kitty Pryde, who has been a godsend over in X-Men Gold. Now that she’s a presence in Generation X as well, she’ll probably be making a regular appearance on this list in the future. There are some quotes though that are memorable for how shocking they are or what they mean for the story being told, and others for how they paint a past relationship that ended abruptly. There’s even one that will make you see the Phoenix force in a whole new light, and if that isn’t worth the price of admission it remains unclear what is. Better still, a curmudgeon punching bag gets the perfect description that you won’t be able to shake. Seriously, someone needs to make that happen asap.
Alright, the pitch is over, so hit the next slide to see some of the most quotable moments from this week in comics, and if your favorite line made the list!
Thor: The Mighty Thor #19
Thor is used to dealing with all sorts of cosmic entities, as it sort of comes with the territory. That said, there are a few threats out there that will put fear into anyone, and one of those happens to be the Phoenix. The powerful entity ends up battling Thor for her hammer, and during the melee, Jane Foster lets out one of the most Thor-like lines ever written. First though, some context.
“No holding back, Mjolnir. I need all of your power. Just as I am giving you all of my life. I do not want to die in my bed. I am THOR, and I will die like a God!” Nice speech right? That leads to this line, which might be the best of the week. “Phoenix!! You call this a fire?! Bah! Try Chemotherapy sometime! Bring it on you paltry pigeon! Take my mother storm!”
The fact that she survived after calling the Phoenix a “paltry pigeon” is marvelous, and that “chemotherapy” burn wasn’t too shabby either. Don’t ever change Thor, don’tย ever change.
The Mighty Thor is written by Jason Aaron with art by Russell Dauterman and Valerioย Schiti. The description is listed below.

Kitty Pryde: X-Men Gold #4
The first of Kitty Pryde’sย dual appearance’sย on the list comes from X-Men Gold #4. Kitty’s wit has always been razor sharp, and it came unfortunatelyย at the Serpent Society’s expense.
When the team happens upon them, Kitty is already planning for their next task. After Prestige points out they haven’t even fought them yet, Kitty says “Yeah, but c’mon, we’re talking about the Serpent Society. D-Listersย who bonded over a snake fetish. I am not making this up.” When one charges her, saying “We’re not D-Listers”, Prydeย retorts “I know. I was being generous.”

Beast Boy: Teen Titans #8
Aqualad’sย still trying to learn how thingsย work in the superhero world, not to mention deal with the group’s contentious leader Damian Wayne. He has the uncanny ability to be on top of all information before anyone else, a trait he derivesย from his father Bruce Wayne. While that’s accurate, Beast Boy’s descriptionย is much more entertaining.
After Robin comes downstairsย with new information, Aqualadย asks “As the new guy, I know I’m constantly the one bugging everybody with questions, but…how does he always seem to knowย everything?”
Beast Boy doesn’t miss a beat, saying “Right? He’s kind of like a really small, mean santa.” When Robin says “I have the Titans HQ under surveillance”, Beast Boy starts humming “…sees you when you’re sleeping’…” right on cue. Damianย

Kitty Pryde: Generation X #1
Kitty Pryde’sย stint with the Guardians of the Galaxy was actually quite entertaining, but her off and on relationship did not leave a great lasting impression it seems. In fact, she’s been dealing with the fallout the best way she can, and that evidentlyย involves kidney stones.
Kitty Prydeย is now the headmaster at Xavier’s School, and is also the leader of the X-Men. In Generation X #1 Jubilee asks how she’s handling things after the split. Prydeย says “Bought some Voodoo dolls, burned his photos, asked the universe to give Peter Quill the world’s biggest kidney stone…I’m great. You?”
Hmmm, it doesn’t really seem like she is…just saying.
Generation X #1 is written by Christina Strain with art by Amilcar Pinnaย and a cover by Terry Dodson. The official description can be found below.
The Xavier Institute for Mutant Education and Outreach has opened its doors and is ready to foster the next generation of heroes and diplomats! Some mutants will just be lucky to survive another day in a world that hates and fears them. And who better to mentor mutantkind’s lovable losers than perpetual sidekick Jubilee? But will Jubilee and GENERATION X survive the experience??

Steve Rogers: Secret Empire #2
Few words have been sweeter than the ones that came at the end of Secret Empire #2. It was there that a woman was being muggedย by several costumed men. A mysterious stranger came to her aid, dealing with all three men swiftly and brutally. The woman asked who he was, and all he said wasย “My name is Steve Rogers. I’m just trying to get home.”
It’s a beacon of hope for a downtrodden Marvel Universe, which is currently being ruled by Hydra, with Captain America at the top. Whether this is a Steve Rogers from an alternate universe or something else altogether, at least there’s hope.
Secret Empire #2 is written by Nick Spencer with art by Rod Reis and Andrea Sorrentino. Mark Brooks provides the book’s cover. The official description can be found below.
