Margot Robbie To Host SNL Season 42 Premiere

SNL will be kicking its 42nd season off with a bang, as it's enlisted Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) to host the season premiere alongside musical guest The Weeknd. We here at Comicbook.com had Robbie as our first pick for SNL season 42 hosts, so the news is very welcome here.

SNL typically tries to get actors and celebrities that are experiencing some momentum in their careers, and Margot Robbie is certainly in that category (via TV Line). Robbie received much-deserved praise for her portrayal of Harley Quinn in the David Ayer-directed Suicide Squad, and before that she delivered a fantastic performance in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

She's currently in the early stages of development on a Quinn spinoff movie, which is rumored to feature other heroes and villains from the DC Universe like Batgirl and the Birds of Prey. She's also just recently signed a deal with Warner Bros., giving the studio first dibs on future projects.

As for SNL, this offseason has certainly been an interesting one, and season 42 will see some significant changes. Gone are mainstays Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah, and season 41 newcomer Jon Rudnitsky is also not a part of the show any longer. In their place will be new additions Alex Moffat and Melissa Villasenor, and SNL writer Mikey Day will transition into a full-time cast member.

SNL returns to NBC on October 1st.
