With decades of history, passionate fanbases, and cultural recognition, the trio of Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman is a significant one. All three teamed up onscreen in last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and are set to reunite in November’s Justice League. And one DC fan is arguing that these onscreen portrayals have a rather god-like connection.

An image cirulating around on Twitter compares the fictional trilogy to another significant one – the Holy Trinity. The Christian belief consists of three figures – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And the infographic makes a pretty compelling case as to why the DC Extended Universe Trinity is similar.

Wonder Woman, whose solo film debuts this weekend, is seen as “The Mother”. The fan argues that the Princess of Themyscira fits the role thanks to her significance in the origin of the DCEU, her “uncorrupted heroism”, and her ability to unite both Batman and Superman, as well as the remaining members of the Justice League.

Batman, by contrast, is identified as the “Troubled Child” of the triumvirate. According to the fan, much of Batman’s motivation is rooted in his role as a son – especially following his parents’ death.

The final member of the trio, Superman, is seen as the “Holy Spirit.” This is justified by the significance of his role as a symbol in society. The fan puts it simply by saying that the Son of Krypton is “a symbol for what might be.”
