‘Wonder Woman’ Director Explains Lynda Carter Homage

Fans may have missed it, but the Wonder Woman movie did pay tribute to the first live-action Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter.

In the moment before she enters no man’s land, Wonder Woman removes her hood and dons her aunt’s tiara. A fan asked director Patty Jenkins if this was meant to be a reference to how Diana’s mother, Queen Hippolyta, fought.

“That’s so awesome. It’s an homage to a lot of different things, but I do think it was part of how she goes into battle and then the headband being Antiope’s and what it is to go into battle,” Jenkins replied.

Jenkins went on to say that she shot the scene in a way that was meant to be a callback to Wonder Woman’s spinning transformation from the 1970s Lynda Carter television series.

“She wouldn’t have a bun, and so yes, I think its an homage to all of her culture and to Lynda Carter as well,” Jenkins explained. “The camera move was very much…I knew we couldn’t do the spin, but I blocked it so it was her turning around and then she turns around, and so it was our little way of trying to pay tribute to everything in that moment.”
