The Flash's Savitar Revelation Will Change the Relationship Between Jay Garrick and Barry Allen

When John Wesley Shipp returned to The Flash season 3 as Jay Garrick, he sat down with Barry Allen in a random 1990s diner to give him some good speedster advice, mostly about...changing the timeline.

In tonight's mid-season finale "The Present" Barry will be reaching out again to Earth-3 for Jay Garrick's help and will once again face a familiar foe - The Trickster, played by Mark Hamill.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com's Russ Burlingame, John Wesley Shipp explained how Savitar will change the relationship between the two speedsters:

"Jay is still pretty much where we left him in the diner until the name Savitar is mentioned, and that hits Jay pretty hard for reasons that we will discover, and immediately whatever suspicion, whatever sort of looking at [Barry] and not being sure what he's up to sort of vanishes."

It sounds like Jay Garrick might be a little upset that Savitar revealed himself to Barry and not him, possibly leading to the two pals butting heads:

"Jay's processing a lot because Savitar is a Speed Force myth that Jay's never seen and that has apparently contacted Barry on one level or another. When Jay finds that out, it hits him on a number of levels: oh, he revealed himself to you? You know what I mean? But then everything is trumped by coming face to face with this incredible villain, and my concern for his safety kicks in, and we begin to see a little bit more of the mentoring, the teamwork, and the relationship that comic book fans have always cherished in the relationship between Jay Garrick and Barry Allen."

When a reunion occurs with the original TV Flash (John Wesley Shipp) and the new TV Flash (Grant Gustin) fans tend to get extremely excited to see the two pair up and tonight's episode is no exception!

Now, throw Mark Hamill into that mix and see what happens.

The Flash airs on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. John Wesley Shipp appears in the midseason finale, titled "The Present," which airs tonight.
