Amber Heard's Mera Costumes in Justice League and Aquaman Compared
Jason Mamoa's Aquaman is gaining a lot of attention as his full DC Extended Universe debut in [...]
Mera In Justice League
The Mera we'll see in Zack Snyder's Justice League is full on regal. The first look photo of her, as well as Justice League trailer footage, shows her dressing and functioning in her role as the queen of Atlantis.
This costume comes with all kinds of fancy armor pieces:
- A Crown
- Shoulder pad armor
- Armored Gauntlets
- Leg and knee armored pieces
- Intricate armor carvings that suggest fashions accents like a cinching belt and corset or scaly armor at the thighs.
In short: it's pretty much the battle armor of a queen, meant to inspire a kingdom with its fashion statements, as well function on the battlefield.
Given that Justice League will see Mera and Atlantis go to war with evil alien general Steppenwolf over possession of a Mother Box (more on them HERE), it's only right that Mera dresses for the occasion.
Mera in Aquaman
In the Aquaman solo movie, we'll see Mera outside of her formal battle armor and in the more traditional superhero costume from modern DC Comics like the New 52.
That outfit contains traces and echoes of the armored one - only scaled down to a much less extravagant degree. The scale-like one-piece swimsuit she wears looks ripped right off the comic book page; whether due to the colorfulness fo Aquaman director James Wan's photo, compared to Snyder's muted tones, Heard's red hair is much more vibrant in Aquaman.
There are some slight variations that seem to combine several versions of Mera's costume - most notably the arms, which still retain the gauntlet look. Certain versions of Mera's modern age costume have gold gauntlets - but usually when she's wearing a sleeveless version of the suit. Those gauntlets are also prominent and extraneous, while the ones in the film seem to be almost woven into the suit. The gauntlets also have a shimmer as if they were made from a pearl-like substance, rather than gold or metal ore. Best of all: she's representing Aquaman and/or Atlantis with the insignia where her belt buckle would be.
Either way: both of Heard's costumes do justice to the comic books, and the actress looks pretty stunning as an undersea queen.
