Fans of Booster Gold and Berlanti’s DC Comic television work were exciting to hear that the light-hearted character and the mind behind The CW’s television universe would both be coming to the DC Extended Universe. However, it turns out that’s not exactly the case.

Speaking to Vulture, Berlanti revealed that the Booster Gold movie will not be a part of the DC Extended Universe. “As of right now we have no connective tissue to those worlds,” Berlanti said. “It’d be a separate thing.”

Berlanti also added that the idea for a Booster Gold movie came after a Booster Gold television project “never got off the ground.”

It’s interesting to hear that Booster Gold will not be a part of the DC Extended Universe when we previously learned that Shazam, featuring an even more lighthearted character, will be a part of the DC Extended Universe. Perhaps being a time traveler helps free Booster Gold up from being part of any single shared universe, allowing him to exist outside both the DC Extended Universe and The CW’s DC Television Universe.

Or perhaps Berlanti even simply meant that there will be no reference to the other DC Extended Universe films rather than it being in its own pocket universe. Think of Booster Gold as potentially being to the DC Extended Universe what Deadpool is to the X-Men Movies Universe.

Berlanti is working with Zack Stentz on the Booster Gold script. Stentz co-wrote X-Men: First Class and Thor, and also wrote an episode of The Flash Season 2.
