There are plenty of critics ready and willing to transform Wonder Woman‘s critical success into a backhanded insult to Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but in the interest of comedy, the folks over at Honest Trailers are taking it back to one of the first female-fronted DC movies: Catwoman, starring Halle Berry.

We mean…it’s no Elektra, but really, what is?
In a film that was originally envisioned as a spinoff to Batman Returns, Berry played Catwoman — a hero who had no ties to Batman Returns and an entirely different costume and origin.
What could go wrong?!
If you want a fascinating look inside of how the trainwreck of Catwoman actually happened, check out this 2011 episode of Eric Ratcliffe’s Why I Hate Comics podcast, on which his guest TV and comics writer John Rogers — and a fair amount of the conversation centered on the years (literally) that Rogers sunk into Catwoman, before the final script turned out to include almost nothing that he had written.
“Dan Waters, who wrote Batman Returns, originally tried. When it was going to be Michelle Pfeiffer right after Batman Returns when that character was so famous,” Rogers explained. “Dan originally, after two or three years, said ‘It can’t be written. It’s just an impossible movie.’ So ten years later, I come along and they’ve just been throwing screenwriter after screenwriter at it for decades. The producer told me that and I was like ‘I can tackle it,’ and one of the things I’ve since learned is don’t mistake a warning for a challenge; know the difference.”
Patience Philips is dead – and more alive than ever. Murdered after she learns the secret behind a cosmetic firm’s anti-aging cream, she’s revived and empowered by mystical felines. Now she’s on the slinky prowl for adventure and revenge. She’s Catwoman.
Academy Award winner Halle Berry plays the sleep, whip-cracking feline fatale, Benjamin Bratt is a cop torn between romance and duty, and Sharon Stone is an ice-blooded supermodel with something to hide in a quicksand stylish Catwoman. With catlike grace, a knack for landing on her feet, a passion for such and a loathing for dogs, Berry is a perfect force to reckon with. She’s action. With attitude.
