Wonder Woman will finally grace the silver screen sans Superman and Batman when her solo film hits next year, and DC couldn’t be happier with their choice for the part, Gal Gadot.

In a new interview with Variety, President of DC Entertainment Diane Nelson had plenty of positive things to say about her initial casting and the reaction to her from audiences during Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
“It’s a testament to Zack Synder’s casting ability. I think Gal was someone who embodied the role so beautifully and we saw lots of evidence of how audiences responded when she came on screen for the first time. People just burst out clapping whether it was in the trailer or screaming or standing up, she and I think Ben Affleck as Batman really stood out as two amazing parts of that movie.”
In many ways, it’s hard to tell where Gal Gadot starts and Wonder Woman begins. “The real life Gal has many of the traits that Wonder Woman does” described Nelson. She’s athletic and strong and she has a great deal of integrity. She’s a mother, she’s a wife, she cares very much about this role so we got very lucky to have her.”
The project has been a long time coming for the DC icon, and Nelson agrees that the character couldn’t deserve it more.
“Wonder Woman is a founding member of the Justice League, and that in fact is why she is so important and noteworthy. She’s not just a sidekick. She’s not eye candy to say we’ve got a female superhero. She is a god in herself, a superhero in herself, and right there along with the men, and has been for years.”
Fans will finally have a chance to see the Amazon warrior in her solo film debut when Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 2, 2017.
