DC Films is trying to score a big victory in 2017 with its two big tentpole releases, Wonder Woman and Justice League, after its 2016 films, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad repelled critics and split the fanbase down the middle.

It’s not just a hope that both Wonder Woman and Justice League are good films (respectively), but rather an overall branding challenge for DC/WB in this new year. They need to convince the hardcore geek fanbase and general audiences alike that DC films are going to be as epic and fun and worthwhile as the movies from that other big superhero universe – and given the DC Extended Universe’s lineup of big-name stars, it shouldn’t be hard.

Case in point: Living superhero Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been pushing ahead with his DC Films project (playing villain Black Adam in Shazam!), and has taken it upon himself to lead the charge in branding the new era of the DCEU:

Johnson also recently met with Warner Bros. and DC Films execs, with he and DC Creative Head Geoff Johns seemingly hitting it off over their shared desire to see DC films with optimism and heroism increased in them. That’s something quite a few fans have called for, after Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad took such somber and cynical approaches to superheroism (respectively). Johnson is major social media powerhouse, so even a tweet like this is a win for DC/WB.

With people like Johnson, Johns and even Ben Affleck now leading the charge creatively, do you have faith that a different DCEU is coming?
