Chief Creative Officer and President of DC Entertainment Geoff Johns has always held a considerable appreciation for the King of Atlantis, and that goes for Queen Mera as well.

The role will finally come to the big screen later this year in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, as actress Amber Heard will be playing the part alongside Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. Johns couldn’t be more excited for the character to finally make her theatrical debut, saying in a recent tweet “@ZackSnyder @justiceleaguewb live action on the big screen! She was in Smallville, but looking forward to the big role the Queen deserves!”

The part was briefly played during Smallville’s Justice League days by Elena Satine. It was a pretty good outing actually, with her saving the rest of the team, but it was only in one episode and she didn’t even really have a costume. Justice League will be the first true outing for the character, who will be seen again in James Wan’s solo Aquaman film.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroesโ€”Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flashโ€”it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Ciarรกn Hinds, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons and Jesse Eisenberg.
