Gotham Finally Paves The Way For Bane
WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR GOTHAM'S LATEST EPISODE, 'HEROES RISE: LIGHT THE WICK'!
People have talked about the intro of famous Batman villains on Gotham since the show's inception. In tonight's episode, Light The Wick, the series finally paves the way for one of the legendary character's greatest enemies; Bane.
Many have thought that, after getting the Alice Tetch Virus, Nathanial Barnes would become the super-strength nemesis. Michael Chiklis was already built for the role, and the venom in his veins now gave him the abilities of Bane. However, he's become a villain named The Executioner. The photos that debuted this past weekend revealed that he will continue to don that mantle.
That seemed disappointing, but tonight's episode has made it evident that a new Bane could rise in Gotham very soon. Even though Alice Tetch has been dead for some time, the Bane venom has found its way back into the fold.
As Katherine reveals part of her master plan, audiences find out that Hugo Strange is working with her. He reveals that he has taken the blood from Barnes, and used it to recreate the poison. Not only that, but Strange has turned the concoction into an airborne pathogen - Tetch in gas form.
Strange goes on to apply the new gas to a man in a container, and the man enters a fit of rage. They can now create superhumans.
With this new strain of the virus, Katherine can turn anyone into their own version of Bane. Nathaniel Barnes may not be the masked killer, but it looks like the door is open for another to come along very soon.
Gordon discovers the weapon the Court of Owls will use to destroy Gotham, which leads him on a dangerous path as he tracks it down. Meanwhile, Kathryn (guest star Leslie Hendrix) and Temple Shaman (guest star Raymond J. Barry) reveal their next move to Bruce, and Ivy comes to Selina's aid.
The regular cast features Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins, Sean Pertwee as Alfred, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/the future Riddler, Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan, Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox, Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean, Maggie Geha as the future Poison Ivy, Michael Chiklis as Detective Nathaniel Barnes, and Benedict Samuel as Mad Hatter.
The guest cast includes Leslie Hendrix as Kathryn, Camila Perez as Firefly, Raymond J. Barry as Temple Shaman, and BD Wong as Professor Hugo Strange.
