The last season of CW’s The Flash ended with a huge confrontation between Barry Allen and his villainous future self known as Savitar. Though Team Flash was able to rescue Iris West from Savitar’s murderous machinations (with Iris herself delivering the killing shot), they also released Jay Garrick from his prison within the Speed Force. But Flash fans know that someone must occupy that spot.

Barry ended up sacrificing his own future, taking the Flash of Earth-3’s place. It was a heroic gesture and the opposite of his actions that lead to the creation of the Flashpoint, showing how much the main character of the series has grown over the course of three seasons. Now we know that series lead Grant Gustin isn’t leaving the show and the Flash will be back, but when? And how?
A new report from TV Line indicates that The Flash will use a time jump six months into the future when it returns to The CW this fall for Season 4.
We’ll probably get to see all of the different ways Team Flash and Central City has changed in the time since the Scarlet Speedster’s disappearance, with characters like Iris and Wally West likely taking a bigger role.
Though it seems unlikely that Barry will be out of action for long, we’re interested in finding out how the show’s producers will bring him back and what will be different when he finally returns.
Maybe will learn more at the Flash’s spotlight panel at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.

Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry’s life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. With the help of his adoptive father, Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), his lifelong best friend and love interest Iris West (Candice Patton), and his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs — Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), C.S.I Julian Albert (Tom Felton), and an Earth-19 novelist named H.R. Wells (Tom Cavanaugh) — Barry continues to protect the people of Central City from the meta-humans that threaten it.

The Flash will return to TV on October 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
