The news of this mission being included in the game came on Thursday via a post on GameStop’s Twitter account that contained an interview with Michael Condrey, the co-founder and Studio Head of Sledgehammer Games, and Glen Schofield, the CEO and co-founder of Sledgehammer Games. The two repeated some previously released information about the game as well as revealed some new details, one of which was the inclusion of the mission.

“We’re going to places like Operation Cobra, which is the largest aerial bombardment,” said Schofield when asked about some of the levels that the game would take players through.
As Schofield mentioned, Operation Cobra was an offensive launched by the U.S. forces that took place during the Normandy Campaign. Through a unified effort between U.S., British, and Canadian forces, thousands of Allied aircraft bombarded German forces in a critical effort during the war. With their forces spread thin due to other coordinated attacks, the Germans were unable to mount a defense against Operation Cobra, an offensive that eventually led to the collapsing of the Normandy front.
He went on to mention again that the Battle of the Bulge would also be part of the campaign, a battle that was the last major German offensive and proved to be the largest that the U.S. Army would participate in during the war. Players will also be able to fight in occupied France during the campaign. When asked about the main character of Call of Duty: WWII that players will control, Schofield mentioned that the inspiration for the character came from members of his family and that the game would feature scenes from the character’s childhood to explain his past.
Call of Duty: World War II is set to be released on Nov. 3 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. More information and updates concerning gameplay and campaign features will be reported as they are released.
