The developers at Naughty Dog have been keeping quite busy as of late, putting the finishing touches on its forthcoming Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and still pouring a great deal of effort into the recently announced The Last of Us Part II.

And it's more than likely that with that, the team will be quite busy making Joel and Ellie's next adventure well worth the wait – even if that means taking their eyes off the best-selling Uncharted franchise for a while.

Speaking with Red Bull, Shaun Escayg, who serves as the creative director for The Lost Legacy, noted, "We have no immediate plans (for another Uncharted game). But if there's anything this game proves that this world is beyond Nathan Drake, there's other cast, other characters – you've got quite a vast amount of cast to pull from in the future if you so wanted." That's not indicating that a follow-up to Lost Legacy is coming though.

In fact, the next game could very well take a different direction. "I'm going on a long vacation after this," he noted. "I don't think anyone at Naughty Dog wants to do another full game in a year. It was intense, but the team, they were really passionate about doing this game and that's why it succeeded. If we knew now that we were making that full game in a year, we probably would have hesitated. But we were already invested from the moment we pitched it and it was a snowball after that."

As far as if the Uncharted legacy could live on after The Lost Legacy, writer Josh Scherr believes it can. Speaking with GamesBeat, he noted, "We could. One fun thing about the series, and about the genre in general, is that we're drawing from the idea of this whole world out there of rogues and thieves and treasure hunters and all these things they do with and against each other. Potentially we could spin this off. But right now we're just focusing on getting this out the door, and then we're focusing on Last of Us Part II. There are no plans for anything beyond this."

You'll be able to check out Uncharted: The Lost Legacy when it releases for PlayStation 4 on August 22nd.
