Destiny 2 is out now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players, and with raids and public events going forward at full speed; some Guardians might be looking for a little extra help both during and after the main campaign. Warning, though – this tips guide will contain minor spoilers for the events in-game.

“Cabal has started a fire that they cannot put out, and they … will … burn,” seems like a good way to kick off the top 5 tips for Destiny 2. Let’s get started, Guardians.
Tip # 1: Know what’s changed!
Though it is very similar to its predecessor, Destiny 2 has some unique changes to the game’s mechanics that players should know going in. With a much deeper story than the first, it wasn’t just the narrative that got a boost. Here is what’s changed, and what you need to know before diving in.
Get familiar with the new gun categories first. The first game saw primary, secondary, and heavy weapons. Now Guardians have power, kinetic, and energy weapon types. Subclasses have also been adjusted to be familiar, yet fresh at the same time.
Another notable difference concerns the shaders and how they have been reconfigured. Previously, the shaders that allowed Guardians to customise the look of their gear were re-usable. Now the consumable has been limited to a one time use to encourage more in-game action, because of this – shader drops are incredibly common and easy to get so it’s not going to hinder the player’s ability to customise their Guardian even further.

Tip #2: Public to Heroic Events
Unlike the first Destiny, players won’t have to just wait around in a specific area hoping for a recent respawn. Public Events have been made a little easier and can be seen when Guardians open up their region maps. Each individual event can be seen by opening of the map. The start time is clearly marked when the player hovers over a specific event, and it shows what the potential rewards are for participation.ย
Public Events are a fantastic way to improve the power level and receive unique loot drops. By participation in this type of in-game activity, Heroic Events can often be triggered as well. This is important for those looking for the best gear, because Heroic Events done correctly produce even better drop rates for players and their Guardians.
Tip # 3: Post Campaign
Like many shooters, the main campaign is on the shorter side – but just because you’ve beat the main narrative, that doesn’t mean the game is over. There are tons of options for players that want to continue their journey with their created Guardian, including raids, strikes, and more.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Strike playlistsย areย longer missions that are their to obtain high level gear. Each planet has its own story, its on feel, with their own loot. It’s also mentioned in the video at the bottom that if you find legendary or rare scout rifles: KEEP THEM and try to keep at least 5 in your inventory at all times.
Planet exploration, patrols, region chests, daily challenges, and the Crucible all await post game. Just like the first Destiny,ย the “meat of the game” is available after the main story wraps up. New strikes will be available, such as Nightfall, that produces incredible loot, as well as Trials of the Nine and raids such as the outstandingly challenging Leviathan.ย

Tip #4: Crucible Tactics
“Radar is your friend,” – though this seems like unneeded advice, it is surprising how many players go headfirst into enemies unknowingly simply by not using the handy radar tool. The radar lets players see other players around, moving or not.
These types of events also heavily encourage team work. Many love to go “lone wolf,” but the way these events are designed makes the reward for teamwork infinitely greater and the experience much smoother.
For those players that might be colour blind, there are options for that too! To make sure that markers are identified correctly, for those with a colour deficiency, take a look at the settings and dive into the accessibility tab. Several colour options are available, depending on where the issue is:
- Deuteranopiaย
- Protanopiaย
- Tritanopia
Tip #5: The Farm and Tower
The new Tower can’t be unlocked until the main game is complete. These social spaces are great for other players to group up and explore. They also house MANY secrets concerning future events and hidden caches of lore. Get your dance on, or kick around the soccer ball. There’s tons to do in the social spaces offered.
Destiny 2ย is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with a PC release slated for October 24th.
