An independent artist has been converting Pokemon across multiple generations into works of Mayan art referred to as PokeMayans.

Not all of the creations carry PokeMayans hashtag created by the Mexico-based artist known as Monarobot, but the name certainly fits given the unique combination of art style and Pokemon possibilities.

While working on fan arts, Mayan renditions of animals, and other concepts, Monarobot has taken to creating these Mayan versions of well-known Pokemon as well, and her results are pretty amazing.

Monarobot also gives some insight into some of the processes behind creating the Mayan Pokemon in addition to their final products, all of which can be seen here through some selections of her work.

A Look Into Monarobot’s Process

As detailed in the tweet above, sometimes it pays off to start with a different Pokemon in order to reach a certain goal. When trying to create a Mayan version of the final-evolution Pokemonย Greninja, Monarobotย had to travel further back in the evolution timeline to Froakie and Frogadierย in order to get the shapes right.

A day after the work-in-progress video was posted, another update came that showed off a shiny version of Greninja.

Evolutions Side-By-Side

While many of the Mayan Pokemonย creations that are shown off through Monarobot’sย Twitter account are standalone images of one Pokemonย at a time, others show more than one alongside each other, especially when they’re closely related.

The above drawings of Cyndaquil, Quilava, and Typhlosionย are perfect examples of this, each of them with a Pokedex number written in Mayan numbering to build upon the Mayan theme through some added historic realism.

Another example of evolutions in action, seen below, shows Magikarpย positioned underneath a massive Gyaradosย that fits in perfectly with the Mayan theme.

Tattoos And Other Commissions

If you’ve been looking at some of these Mayan renditions of famous Pokemon and the idea of a Pokemon-themed tattoo based on the drawings has crossed your mind, you’re definitely not alone. Monarobotย takes tattoo designs and concepts into mind when creating some of the pieces, sometimes even creating pieces of art with the end result planned to be a tattoo.

In addition to the art that she creates on her own, Monorobotย also takes commissions for other pieces, so if herย Pokemon-themed art led to some inspiration for another project, she might just be able to help you out.

Stay Updated On Monarobot’s Work

Throughout multiple posts from Monarobot, itย looks like the impressive Mayan Pokemonย designs are coming along at a pretty quick pace. Among the personal ideas and the commissioned drawings, there are plenty of updates and creations to keep up with that continue to come from the artist.

If you want to see more of the work as it’s completed, you can check out Monarobot’s Twitter account where you can dig deeper into her work. The artist also has a growing Patreonย account that’s been set up in order to keep the beautiful art flowing.
