Bayek may be the main character that players will be controlling in Assassin's Creed Origins, but there are plenty of other NPCs and factions that make up the Egyptian landscape of Origins. And not all of these groups of people get along with each other either, so you can expect to find yourself wrapped up in some inter-faction conflicts during your travels.

Similar to the way that factions and gangs would scrap in other games, these Assassin's Creed Origins factions have their own missions and personal issues with other groups, and it's up to Bayek and the player to decide whether they want to get involved or not.

"There are quite a few different factions in the world, and keep in mind that these factions are really living in the world," Ashraf Ismail, the creative director for Assassin's Creed Origins, said in an interview with GamesRadar. "We don't have anything that is a spawned event, you know, 'because you're 50 metres away we're going to spawn this fight here for you.' These are NPCs that have a schedule, that have an agenda, that criss-cross paths, and if they happen to be enemies they'll fight, if they happen to be allies they'll hug each other. So this is really the world living."

From Ismail's comments on the faction system, it looks like all of these events are going to be unfolding with or without you. That means that players could potentially walk up on a big battle going on between rival factions, or they could be standing there, minding their own business, when an argument suddenly breaks out into a conflict.

As far as who you'll be able to side with in the game, there have been three main factions revealed so far that come with completely different styles and motives. There are the Rebels that Bayek often aligns with, a group known as the Ptolemies who enforce the rules of Egypt, and then there are the lawless Bandits who do their best to wage chaos against everyone else.

Assassin's Creed Origins is scheduled for an Oct. 27 release when players can begin planning out their faction alliances. Don't forget that Amazon Prime members can save 20% on pre-order games.
