The servers for Destiny 2 are going through a scheduled maintenance period on Monday to apply an update that'll lock players out for just a few hours.

Bungie's update for the recent hit sequel was announced more than once before the maintenance took place, so hopefully players will have had sufficient time to make other arrangements during the downtime. According to the announcement from Bungie, the maintenance began at 7 a.m. PT when the servers began blocking players from signing into the game, and by 8 a.m. PT, all players would be removed from both Destiny and Destiny 2 while the scheduled maintenance continued.

The maintenance for the game is expected to run until 11 a.m. PT, so players won't be locked out for too long during the day. Per Bungie's announcement about the maintenance that came earlier in the week, the offline period is when they'll patch the game with update 1.0.1.3. The update will likely tackle a variety of issues that players have experienced and reported since the game's explosive launch, some of which include a variety of bugfixes and improvements to servers' health.

An issue with the game crashing on the PlayStation 4 is also an area that's likely being touched on since it was included in the weekly update from Bungie. The issue was being looked into at the time for a fix, and even though it doesn't seem to happen all that often, PS4 players will likely be hoping for a quick fix.

But among all of the other issues, one of the most notable changes that'll be noticed after the patch is the removal of some controversial imagery on a piece of armor. It was brought to Bungie's attention that a design on a pair of gauntlets shared some similarities with a concept that began as a meme and was appropriated by white supremacy groups. Player response was pretty divided over whether or not the imagery should be removed, but a quick response from Bungie confirmed that the design was already gone from the shared game world and would soon be removed entirely.

The maintenance is scheduled to end at 11 a.m. PT, so players will be able to hop back online then if everything goes according to Bungie's plan.
