We're not too far off from seeing the continuation of Bethesda's Dishonored franchise with the side game release Death of the Outsider, but a few fans may be wondering what its back story is all about. Fortunately, the publisher has a lot to talk about with it.

First off, it provided a live stage demo for the game that really lays out what the story is about, but there are also additional details below. You can watch it above.

According to Bethesda's blog page, "The culmination of an arc that began with the assassination of Empress Jessamine Kaldwin in the original Dishonored? Or the perfect entry point into the richly realized Dishonored world? When it comes to Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, the answer is simple: both. A standalone adventure featuring Billie Lurk – a fan-favorite character who's playable for the first time in the series – Dishonored: Death of the Outsider sends you on an impossible mission to take down a supernatural god-like figure."

What's important, though, is that a lot of the gameplay we've come to expect from the series is still intact, as you can still play your way. "Stay in the shadows or step into the daylight to take on all foes – the choice is yours. Equipped with a unique set of supernatural abilities, gadgets, and weapons, you can approach each situation in your own way. Use your abilities and skills to sneak through environments unseen or brutally eliminate all opposition in your way."

The video really sums up what the follow-up is about, and for those looking to explore it a little further, Bethesda is likely to have it in some capacity at its annual QuakeCon event that's taking place later this month, alongside the publisher's other forthcoming releases, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and The Evil Within 2, as well as, obviously, Quake Champions. We'll see what the company has to offer at that time.

But this seems more like an original entry in the series rather than just a spin-off, and that should suit its many fans just fine.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider arrives on September 15th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
