The Epic Games Store has only one new free game this week, as opposed to two. And this week, PC users on EGS are being treated to an open-world survival game from 2024, currently in early access. It’s not often Epic Games Store users get games in early access, but it has happened before. That said, like every week, those interested in the free PC game download only have one week to claim it. Come October 9, the 2024 open-world game will be replaced with a new free offer, which will include two free games.

The new Epic Games Store free game this week is Nightingale from Infelxion Games, which is both developing the title and publishing it. And judging by the number of user reviews the game has, it’s been pretty popular since its release, though certainly divisive as well. On Steam, the open-world survival game, which costs $29.99, has almost 10,000 user reviews, but only 71 percent of reviews are positive. This gives the PC game a “Mostly Positive” rating. That said, when you filter to recent reviews only, the approval rating is 64% and “Mixed.” And this is because some recent updates to the early access game have not impressed players of it. Other critics have also pointed to issues with how the game runs, which is common for games that run on Unreal Engine 5, and how slow the updates are.
About the Game
Nightingale is an open-world PVE survival game that puts a major emphasis on crafting, like most games in the genre. The PC game can be played solo or co-op. Whatever you choose, the mission is still the same: become a Realmwalker and reignite the ancient crossway portals.
Those who decide to trigger this offer and jump into the early-access game should, of course, expect an evolving game that will be expanded upon and improved ahead of its 1.0 release. That said, there is already plenty of content to enjoy. Just to mainline the game is going to set you back roughly 25 hours. Add in side content, and the total playtime is closer to 50 hours. Meanwhile, given the PVE and replayability elements, it’s very easy to get more than 50 hours out of the open-world game, as many of the aforementioned Steam user reviews have.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum.
