Far Cry 7 Report Gives New Release Date Update, Reveals Huge Change

A new report about Far Cry 7 gives an update on its release date. It has been four years since the release of Far Cry 6, which didn’t leave the Ubisoft series in the best place. By the series’ standards, this is becoming a lengthy wait for the next installment. Previously, three years seperated Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 5, four years separated Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 4, and two years separated Far Cry 4 and Far Cry 3. This gap already matches the longest gap between modern releases, and there’s still no word of a release date. That said, a new report claims this is not because it is still far away, but rather it appears Ubisoft is waiting until the release date is fairly close to reveal the game.

The new report comes from Nash Weedle, an industry insider who is primarily known for scoops pertaining to Nintendo, but this time, he has some Ubisoft information, though Nintendo is involved. According to the insider, Far Cry 7 is set to release sometime in 2026, and the Nintendo Switch 2 will be included in the launch platforms.

A Huge Change for the Series

As Nintendo fans may know, only one single Far Cry game has ever been released on a Nintendo console, and that was Far Cry Vengeance, a 2006 Nintendo Wii exclusive, which served as a remake of Far Cry Instincts: Evolution. This was the first and last Far Cry game to come to any Nintendo console ever. So, if Far Cry 7 comes to Nintendo Switch 2, and does so at launch, that will be very notable for the series. Whether it will tie into the upcoming Far Cry TV show remains to be seen. The reported timelines for each suggest it will not.

Unfortunately, this is the extent of the report, which, of course, should be taken with a grain of salt. Even if this information is accurate, which there is no guarantee of, it doesn’t mean it will remain accurate over time. Things change in game development all the time.

At the moment of publishing, neither Ubisoft nor Nintendo has commented on this new report. There are a variety of reasons why we do not expect this to change, but if it does, we will update the story accordingly. In the meantime, and as always, leave a comment below and join the conversation now in the ComicBook Forum. Are you looking forward to Far Cry 7?
