Understandably so, collaborative skins get a lot of attention in Fortnite. It is pretty nice to be able to play a game where your team is made up of Godzilla, Peter Griffin, Spider-Man, and Darth Vader, and you can take on a squad of Rick Sanchez, LeBron James, The Weeknd, and Kratos. However, the rise of collaborations in Fortnite has honestly drowned out original skins. Nowadays, the battle pass is considered good or bad based almost entirely on what crossover we get. There was a time long ago when this wasn’t the case, as Fortnite’s original skins dominated player interest. Some of them continue to be among the best skins in the game even now. To that end, these are the 10 coolest original Fortnite skins.

1. Peely

Peely is such a great Fortnite skin and has become synonymous with the game itself. The cosmetic also has the telltale sign of a good outfit: tons of spin-off skins. There are so many cool alternative versions of Peely, including Polar Peely, P-1000, Agent Peely, and P33ly. Peely also walks the line between goofy and fun so well. It perfectly represents Fortnite in doing so, because the game is ultimately about survival and eliminating all enemies, but it’s also terribly whimsical and silly, which is what makes Peely so great.
2. Jonesy the First

Similarly, Jonesy has had tons of different skins pop up, but not in the same way. Jonesy was just one of the first few character models, so tons of different skins from the early days of Fortnite are Jonesy. However, there are only a few that actually got branded as Jonesy, and Jonesy the First is the “original” in the lore, so the outfit deserves the honor. Like Peely, Jonesy is pretty much synonymous with Fortnite. When players think of a skin, the odds are, it’s some variant of Jonesy the First, so the skin is as iconic as it gets.
3. Skull Trooper

Skull Trooper was such a great skin that it forced Epic Games to change how it did things. There was such intense demand for Skull Trooper to come back that the developers eventually acquiesced, but without totally going back on its past exclusivity promise. However, since then, things have changed even more, and it can all be traced back to one of the absolute best Fortnite skins ever made. If Skull Trooper hadn’t been such a good and highly desirable outfit, then there’s no telling what exclusivity, battle passes, and the Item Shop might look like.
4. Midas

Midas was introduced when Fortnite began slowing down a little bit in Chapter 2 Season 2. Despite being introduced after the biggest heyday the game had, Midas remains one of the coolest skins. The golden touch feature is incredible, and Midas’ epic design spawned several other characters in the same style, including Marigold, Shadow Midas, and more. None of them is as cool as the original, who also happens to be one of the most important characters to the sprawling lore in Fortnite.
5. Aura

Aura might now be known as a “sweat” skin, but that’s for good reason. Players who really get into the game don’t want to use bad skins, so the fact that it’s become so iconic is a testament to Aura’s impressive design. If it didn’t have that connotation, it would probably be a whole lot more popular, too. Even with that in mind, it’s the eighth-most used outfit in the entire game according to Fortnite.gg, so players clearly love it.
6. Wild Card

Wild Card is one amazing skin, and it achieves this by having options. For one thing, the base design of an all-white suit with a white mask and very little black to accent it. That alone would make it one of the most awesome skins to use, but the customization is what sets it apart. There are four different playing card masks to use, but there’s also another lucky style that trades out the white suit for a green one, making it unique and good-looking compared to the other four.
7. The Reaper

Long before collaborations (including the actual John Wick) were a thing in Fortnite, The Reaper was one of the first pseudo-collab skins. It was basically John Wick, but without any licensing. The outfit looks just like the contract killer movie character, but with that classic Fortnite style. It’s honestly a shame that the real John Wick got added to the metaverse, because this one was just fine as a fake version on its own.
8. Cuddle Team Leader

You could put any of the Team Leader skins here. The bear costumes are great, with Firework Team Leader and Cuddle Team Leader really standing out. They fit the vibe of Fortnite perfectly, with Cuddle Team Leader’s pink color scheme really working well. It’s maybe not the best for blending into the surroundings, but it’s truly one of the most iconic outfits you can play as.
9. Summit Striker

Summit Striker set the bar high for most starter packs. This original skin doesn’t riff off of much aside from a skier, but it still stands apart as one of the coolest skins in the game. Two things usually work well to make a Fortnite outfit great: a mask and a hood. Somehow, Epic Games combined the two factors into one outfit and made it a genuinely great skin. The color scheme is perfect, too, as it’s not too bright to really stand out to enemy players while also not being painfully dull.
10. Nisha

Nisha was one of the few really good skins from Chapter 5 Season 1. It helps that she was an iconic boss with a really good weapon that roamed an extremely popular landing spot, but the skin design is great, too. What specifically makes this skin so cool is the masks. The maskless version is fine, but all three mask styles are phenomenal. The Duelist Mask is probably the best, but they’re all good and go so well with each alternate style to make this a great skin to have.
