A new Ghost of Yotei update is live, which is consequently the first update since the game’s release on PS5 two days ago. The new PS5 exclusive game did have a substantial day-one patch, but this update is a new, separate download. Where the day-one update was a substantial patch to the game with many improvements and fixes, this new Ghost of Yotei update is less consequential, though still important enough that Sucker Punch Productions felt the need to rush it out rather than include it in a larger, later patch. Of course, issuing updates not only takes up valuable post-launch resources, but you also want to avoid inflicting mandatory downloads on players when you can.

Unfortunately, we do not have detailed patch notes for the new Ghost of Yotei Update 1.008, but we do know it fixes gameplay bugs that were caused by the previous update to the game. There are some stability improvements and some gameplay issues ironed out. The lack of specificity could be down to the fact that it’s the weekend, and the fact that this was seemingly an emergency push. It could also be down to the fact that each individual change is not consequential enough to detail. Right now, we do not know, but if Sucker Punch Productions or PlayStation provides more insight into the patch, we will update the story accordingly.
Not Much to Fix
Like many marquee Sony exclusive games, Ghost of Yotei doesn’t have many bugs or performance issues. It’s optimized very well. To this end, it is not really in need of substantial post-launch update support. What it could use are new features and various gameplay improvements, but all of that will take longer to implement. As we note in our official review, it is simply more Ghost of Tsushima, but refined and improved. So, perhaps it should come as no surprise that it’s been a smooth launch for Sucker Punch Productions and Sony.
As for what owners of the new PS5 game should expect from its future, there is a Legends co-op mode coming in 2026, but beyond this, it’s unclear what the game’s roadmap is and how robust it will be. PlayStation usually likes to add the likes of Photo Mode, New Game+, and other similar features after its releases. The former is already in the game, but the latter is not. It’s safe to assume this could also be added in 2026.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum.
