Last week, we updated you on what would be coming to Grand Theft Auto Online, with a detailed roadmap that laid out what kind of content would be coming to the game. And next week, fans will be thrilled with a new kind of stunt racing event.

On October 17th, Transform Races will be coming to Online, serving as “the next evolution of Stunt Racing,” according to Rockstar Games‘ press release. You can see the debut trailer for the mode above.
“Transform Races allow for instant mid-race transition between land, sea and air vehicles as players traverse courses that span Los Santos’ streets, harbors, and skies. Transform between a wide array of vehicle types – from Supers and Off-Roaders, to Boats, Jet Skis, Planes, Helicopters and more,” Rockstar Games said.
“These new and unique stunt tracks will also feature Warps, new checkpoint types that allow for instant mid-race jumps from place to place across the map, allowing for a huge range of new Stunt Race types.”
It’s easy to see from the trailer that these transform races have similar vibes to Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, a game that was released by Sega in 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC. In that game, Sonic, alongside a number of opponents, raced around on tracks that allowed them to change their vehicles on the fly, from boat to flying vehicle to race car, depending on the conditions of said track. Transform Races seems to have a familiar vibe, but instead of the car transforming, it simply goes, “POOF!” and then turns into a plane, bike, or whatever the situation calls for.
The races promise to take place all over the world of Grand Theft Auto Online, offering a number of challenges to take on. Just don’t miss the transformation circle, because, well, then you’ve got a car basically flying off until it crash lands to the Earth below. Ouch.
The event looks to be a lot of fun, and hopefully will remain a permanent part of the Grand Theft Auto Online universe. We’ll see soon enough.
Grand Theft Auto Online is available now as part of Grand Theft Auto V, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
