Hogwarts Legacy Players Discover Hogsmeade Secret Two Years After Release

The Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy has been available for over two years on a variety of platforms, played by tens of millions. Yet, only now are fans of the WB Games release discovering a Hogsmeade secret that seems to have eluded everyone, or at least the overwhelming majority of players. The secret is just a small detail, which explains how it was missed, but it is a small detail that hardcore fans will no doubt appreciate.

Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player, narrative-driven RPG without a ton of replayability. Yet, well over two years after its initial release, many continue to actively play it. This is evident, for example, by the fact that it hit 16,000 concurrent players on Steam alone within the last 24 hours. And perhaps this should not come as a surprise. After all, it beat Call of Duty as 2023’s best-selling game. Meanwhile, Avalanche Software continues to support the game, as evidenced by the fact that it got a new feature earlier this week. Whatever keeps Harry Potter fans coming back, the point is they keep coming back to the game, which is why it’s even more surprising that this new detail flew under the radar.

Magical Trash Cans

To the surprise of many, when in Hogsmeade if you see a piece of trash on the ground, you can cast Accio on it, followed by Wingardium Leviosa, to place it in a trash can, which will then respond with a unique, special animation that was certainly added by a bored animator who had nothing better to do at work one day but to put an animation into the game that 99.9% of players will never see.

As you would expect, the post featuring a video demonstrating this shot is at the top of the Hogwarts Legacy Reddit page, and all the comments reveal that nobody knew this existed. And if so many of the game’s most hardcore fans didn’t know about this, it is safe to assume that just about every more casual fan of the game has no idea about this little easter egg.

“I always wondered what to do with that damn pebble,” reads one of the comments. Another adds: “Platinum-ed this game but had no idea.”

It’s details like this that go a long way in elevating the experience of playing Hogwarts Legacy, which in many ways is a middle-of-the-road open-world RPG. However, it’s such an impressive recreation of the universe, brought to life with tiny details, that you often don’t notice the less-than-impressive parts of the game, as we note in our official review of the Harry Potter game.

All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook forum. Did you know about this detail?
