As the Overwatch League Roster for competitive esports has been announced courtesy of Shaquille O’Neal, one surprising twist occurred that had nothing to do with team picks. Who knew Jennifer Lopez was a fan of competitive esports?

Shaq takes the point as he introduces J.Lo, NFL running back Marshawn Lynch, and former NFL defensive end Michael Strahan in the unveiling of the team roster picks for San Francisco’s Overwatch League. Though it might be a little surprising to see “Jenny from the block” on the esports media circuit, it does make sense since she is an investor.

NRG esports made the announcement earlier that they are in the process of closing a $15 million Series B financing round and among those investors included in that is singer/actress Miss Lopez herself. There are many other investors as well, including Alex Rodriguez and former NFL chief financial officer Anthony Noto.

As far as the team itself, San Fran is not hurting for lack of competent players. Their team came together nicely with a well-rounded crew that have established themselves in the Overwatch League:

  • Tanks: David “nomy” Ramirez and Matthew “super” DeLisi
  • Support: Nikola “sleepy” Andrews and Daniel “dhaK” Paz
  • DPS: Dante “danteh” Cruz, Andre “iddqd” Dahlstrom, Andrej “babybay” Francisty, and Jay “sinatraa” Won

The Overwatch League preseason officially kicks off on December 6th, with the main event commencing on January 10th, 2018.
