Xenoblade Chronicles 2 just came out for Nintendo Switch, and while we think it’s an excellent adventure in its own right, we can’t help but wonder – what’s next for Monolith Soft?

After all, the game’s out now, and there’s no question it would probably love to do Xenoblade Chronicles 3 sooner rather than later. But the president of the game’s developer, Tetsuya Takahashi, has a different idea – bring back a classic entry in the series to the Nintendo Switch.

While speaking with 4Gamer (according to SiliconEra), Takahashi was open to the idea of bringing the Wii U classic Xenoblade Chronicles X to the Switch.

The interviewer asked, “Just as Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii was made available on the New 3DS, are there any chances we’ll see Xenoblade Chronicles X on other hardware?”

To which Takahashi responded, “Personally speaking, there are times I feel like playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and think about how nice it would be to play it on the Nintendo Switch. Of course, that will depend on demand and such, but I will think about it while discussing future plans with Nintendo.”

So, again, nothing has been confirmed, but we’re starting to see some quality ports of Wii U games on the Switch, including Mario Kart 8 and Pokken Tournament. So the possibility is definitely there.

Xenoblade Chronicles X was appreciated by many on the Wii U, and ended up being one of the highest rated games on the system, so its popularity could help boost those chances.

For now, though, definitely go enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is on Nintendo Switch now.
